Havana Club 15 Year Old, 40%

from a purchased sample

Nose: Sweet, light, and moderately thick rum. A few grassy and tropical notes (along the lines of subtle banana.) Some vanilla and fudge, but mainly honey and sugar. Touch of rubber and plastic. A little salt and caramel. It's nice, and almost exactly what you'd expect of a standard rum like this.

Palate: Sweet. It's on granular sugar in thin honey. Citric, and some extremely light, stale coffee. Plastic is here, too. Vanilla fudge with a single drop of pineapple and banana juices. There is a bitter turn here, which normally helps balance the sweetness, and it does here, too, but it's just ever so slightly off. Doesn't quite do it for me.

Finish: Fades a bit quickly with generally the same profile. This had some very nice elements on the noes, but it was unexceptional. The palate wasn't for me, but that's a style preference. With more body, it'd have been greatly improved. It's just not terribly inspired. C+/B- (79/80)
