from a purchased sample

Nose: Faint, even with aeration. Sugar, honey, whiffs of vanilla. Fermented brown sugar (ed: c'mon, you can do better) Something almost chemical. Pinch of salt. Brown spices and that damned acetone. Ach! Now that I've gotten it, I can't move past it. There are a few other gentle, sweet, and spicy fruit notes, but I am having difficulty focusing past that note. Ok, maybe a floral type quality elsewhere, which reminds me of cognac.

Palate: Sugar cane juice, honey, some (minimal) oak. Brown baking spices. Torched medium molasses, lemon zest, bananas, faint here, really, and we're moving along...

Finish: Some more fruit, stale cane juice, molasses, and oak. The chemical note never returned, which is good, but I'm not sure where it comes from. On the whole, this is unexceptional and didn't impress me anywhere along the way. To top it off, I really hated the nose. D+

Possibly the smoothest rum I have ever tasted. Mmmm....
