Nose: Typical armagnac aroma....there is no mistaking this for Cognac in any way. Burnt sugar, toffee, caramel, vanilla, dried dates, root beer, cocoa.....and more dried dates.
Taste: It comes on dry and then goes sweet with toffee, and then it goes to the bitter side with coffee and dark chocolate. As with most Armagnac, it tends to finish bitter rather than spicy. Unfortunately, this stuff has been watered down to 40% ABV which is a nice way to say that it is quite.....bland. Typically, Armagnac goes fantastic with a cigar as it tends to absorb a lot of the oak but this particular Armagnac is too watery to waste on a fine cigar. This is another product ruined by the manufacturers insistence that 40% ABV is some magical number and is overpriced due to the wateriness. Not a bad pour, but you can get much higher quality products for far less coin. I would not buy this again.
