How many unopened bottles of Courvoisier L'Esprit are left?

Postby DrNotes » Thu Feb 14, 2013 11:10 pm

There were 2000 bottles created for the year 2000, I have bottle #1257, still unopened. I would like to hear from other owners, maybe we can track all of the remaining bottles for such a collectible cognac. Here is the official description:

L'Esprit de Courvoisier Cognac, Lalique Crystal decanter, 700ml

It is said that Napoleon took a good supply of courvoisier cognac with him amongst his baggage on the ship that took him to to exile in St Helena. It is reported that the official escort on the ship that was taking Napoleon to his exile, after repeated tastes, offered a toast to the "Cognac of Napoleon", and his name went down in history. "the few precious drops that managed to escape Napoleon's lips" L'Esprit de courvoisier is a very rare, old cognac containing many of the finest ... the history and rarity of L'Esprit.

The age and vintages of L'Esprit de courvoisier make it perhaps the ultimate cognac ever created - courvoisier L'Esprit Decanter Cognac.

L'Esprit de Courvoisier is a very rare, old cognac containing many of the finest vintages in history, some almost 200 years old. World renowned crystal maker Lalique has hand crafted and numbered each spectacular decanter to reflect the history and rarity of L'Esprit. The age and vintages of L'Esprit de Courvoisier make it perhaps the ultimate cognac ever created. L'Esprit contains no cognacs younger than 1930.

L'Esprit contains cognac from these historical periods:

1802 - The Coronation of Napoleon I
1865 - Civil War and French Industrial Revolution
1910 - The Establishment of the Cognac Region in France

The cognac is presented in hand cut, individually numbered Lalique crystal decanters. It has a rich and complex taste, vibrant though well matured. It contains delicate flavors such as old port wine, hint of coffee beans and the smoke of a fine cigar which play along with dense sweet fragrances such as hot fruit cakes with cinnamon, dry apricot and honey. Enjoying a cognac this fine will make you stand a little taller, which may be another reason why Napoleon loved it so.

If you know of the status of any specific bottle numbers of Courvoisier L'Esprit between 1 and 2000, please feel free to add to this discussion. I know that some people collect the empty Lalique carafes, each one has the number engraved in the base. Maybe someday we can have a complete status list of the all 2000 bottles, would be kind of cool. How hard could that be? ;)

I am a programmer, I would be happy to create a database to organize the data if we collect enough of a sample.

Harrods selling bottle #1946

Postby DrNotes » Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:31 pm

Having checked with the Harrods wine department today, they have confirmed they have one in stock and the number associated with that bottle is 1946. However, they are currently awaiting delivery for a stopper for the bottle. Not sure if the original was broken or lost or what the reason might be. It is priced at 6500 pounds.
