Martell XO

Postby wouter » Sun Sep 01, 2013 3:35 pm

Another well known Cognac which was not mentioned on the forum before...

With its distinctive, arch-shaped bottle, Martell XO is a powerful symbol of inspiration, testimony to Jean Martell’s visionary spirit. Combining the elegance of the Borderies with the power of the Grande Champagne growth, Martell is an outstanding XO which bears the hallmark of the Martell style.

My tasting notes of Martell XO are:

The color: amber-gold.
The fragrance: ginger bread, dried fruit, orange marmalade and rancio.
The taste: smooth and complex flavor, this carries the dried fruit with a vanilla and oak dominate.
The after-taste: great lenght.
The origin: Grande Champagne, Petit Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois.
Age: 40 to 45 years old.

40 to 45 years oldm really ??? Never tasted that one, however I have some doubts the eaux-de-vie used for this one are really this old (see my posts about visits of cognac producers)... Or maybe it is that the oldest spirit in that blend is around 40 years old ? I think the age is never given officially anyway.

As for the aromas, there is some similarity with the Cordon Bleu it seems, which also displays this orangy profile with maybe a bit more flowers...
