Re: Maison Surrenne Tonneau no 1

I had wondered about that- I had bought off the second release, Numen I think had the first. The second release was still good, but depending on what was added to replenish the tonneau, I also considered whether each subsequent release became a different blend.

Re: Disaster with bottle of L'or de J&F, or can be saved?

The leak should have minimal impact on the cognac itself. I would not touch the seal because it would suggest tampering. For a collector, the leak decreases the value of the bottle. Folks usually want pristine bottles. There might be some drinking collector who might be interested but not at a high ...

Re: Hello from N.C.

Welcome. Sounds like you are a big fan of cognac. We all have other interests too, I'm into Japanese knives myself and can appreciate your knife sharpening work. Too bad about losing your XO bottles. I guess you have to careful with people.

Re: Daniel Bouju Reserve Familiale

Where did you order the bouju from and which ones did you get?

I picked up some when they stopped selling in the U.S. for awhile.

My favorite is the paul-Marie devant le Porte. Check Nicolas palazzi's website. He has brought in some great cognacs at different price points.

Re: Daniel Bouju Reserve Familiale

The best depends on your taste which probably evolves as you drink more. The price over $300-400 doesn't necessarily translate into taste- we are paying for the rarity of the item, age, bottle or crystal, reputation of house, actual taste, and random pricing. Around $750-1000, this would include tes...

Re: Daniel Bouju Réserve Familiale

Louis xiii is about elegance and finesse, the bouju FR is more depth and intensity.

My preference is seeking out cask strength older cognacs that have character and balance. You will get a lot more for your money.

Re: Cognac intermediate - Would like advice "where to go nex

Sounds like you've had a lot of great stuff. The Maison Surrenne David Picoron sounds intriguing. I agree with Numen on the Paul Marie Devant La Porte- that's my favorite so far. Upper end Audry's or Tesserons might be worth trying. Bouju's are re-entering the market. Cask strengths are good. K&...

Numen, it is amazing what you drink and you get your hands on. I appreciate it bc few drink this level of cognac and share it with others.

Re: From San Francisco

Certainly up for trading or if you can get some stagg's exchanging Xmas gifts :) I like to try a lot of stuff, but opening bottles of the good stuff can get quite pricy. I do stash some, and sometimes it's a race to buy before you try. By the time you taste it, it may be gone. I picked up probably e...
